One of my friends recently posed this question on her Facebook page: Do you love your job? If yes, why?
My response was easy: Yes! I get to do what I want, when I want…all while helping other small businesses. Love my clients!
When I think about the clients I’ve been fortunate to work with over the years, I brim with pride, gratitude and excitement. The client and project I’m going to talk about today is one that really gets me excited!
My relationship with WildRock Public Relations & Marketing started back in 2013, when I was fortunate to work with their team through my role at United Way of Larimer County. I knew then that this was a relationship I’d love to continue to grow.
When Kristin, WildRock’s Founder & CEO, reached out to me in May looking for help designing and publishing a book her and her team had written, I was eager to hear more about it! We dove into this new territory head-first and navigated the challenges that came with e-book and paperback publishing.
After a summer of content updates, layout suggestions, design edits and Amazon uploads, CHANGE. ADAPT. ROCK. has officially been published! I’ve read this book probably 10 times through the process. I even bought a paperback copy for myself because IT’S. JUST. THAT. GOOD.
Here’s a little taste of what’s in the book:
You’ll discover what Fortune 500 companies already know: a well-designed PR plan is the key to success. The adage, “If you fail to plan, then you are planning to fail,” stands true during times of pandemic, recession, hardship, crisis and other unforeseen changes. Now is the time to step back, analyze, plan and move forward with intention and rock-solid communication plans.
Unlike other marketing books on Amazon, CHANGE. ADAPT. ROCK. is packed with resources, forms, templates and checklists to take action for your business today, including:
- Marketing principles and marketing ideas.
- A press release and a public relations activities checklist to build solid public relations campaigns.
- Digital marketing secrets to seamlessly execute an effective digital marketing plan.
- A complete public relations, digital marketing, content and social media workbook at your fingertips.
- Marketing and sales metrics to drive ROI for your business.
- Content marketing and SEO trends for B2C and B2B content marketing.
- Digital marketing growth hacks for marketing your business.
- Social media post ideas to craft channel-specific content.
- Plus, a crisis management plan template to prepare for unforeseen events.
How to design and publish a book:
Through the project, I had people asking me, “So, what exactly does it take to design and publish a book?” This project surely had its challenges. Here’s what I learned through the process:
Publishing an e-book to Amazon can be a bit tricky.
You need to be sure you know whether you want a reflowable layout or a fixed layout. This can all be determined by researching on the front-end and having your ducks in a row. For this project, we ended up going with a fixed layout as it was important to keep the design and layout of the pages as we intended them to look.
If it’s so tricky, why publish to Amazon?
Simply put, because Amazon has the Kindle and your book can be on the market fast.
Consider publishing a paperback book alongside your e-book.
Some people (including me) would rather have a book in my hands rather than digitally.
Is it important for your paperback book to be full-color?
When designing for paperback printing, take a look at the price Amazon charges for printing both black/white and color versions and design from there. Color ends up being quite a bit more expensive per copy.
I want to take a moment to thank Kristin and the team at WildRock for trusting me with their “baby.” This project was the highlight of my summer!
