Have you ever met somebody and it just clicks? That’s what happened when I first met Elana 12 years ago in Fort Collins. She interviewed, and was eventually hired, to be my department’s intern at United Way of Larimer County. After her internship was finished, we kept in touch and I even volunteered to be a model when she was going to Esthetician school. She’s since moved to the Seattle area and started two businesses while there, Elana @ Tangerine and XO Lanes, both of which I helped develop the logos and websites.
Her latest venture, XO Lanes, is a solution for gifting near and far. Her gift boxes are beautifully curated and perfect for any occasion. Looking for a gift for a new mom or dad? What about something for your boyfriend or husband? XO Lanes has something for everybody! Plus, you can ship to multiple people on one order!
Elana took some time out of her busy schedule to do a little interview with me. Learn a bit more about her and be sure to check out her shop and use coupon code ROCKON for 25% off your entire purchase.
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Elana and I am a Colorado native who has been in Seattle since 2012. I am passionate about fitness and esthetics as well as maintaining strong connections and bonds in friendship and close relationships.
What led you to creating XO Lanes?
I created XO Lanes after feeling the heartbreaking lack of connection the COVID-19 Pandemic brought on. I am a person who is used to traveling and making plans and celebrating all of life’s precious moments and I had a strong desire to help others do so after receiving a thoughtful bachelorette package from my closest girlfriends.
What is most important to your business and why?
My number one priority is guest satisfaction. There can be no business without this as priority number 1. What feeds into that is putting detailed care and thought into each box and curating it to exceed expectations.
When you were looking for help with your new brand and website, what led you to working with M Rock Creative?
Megan is extremely professional and organized and I have worked with her when I was developing my business website for my spa. She gets back to me quickly, gives accurate timeframes and has a deep desire to help beyond just the creation at hand.
What were the biggest challenges behind getting XO Lanes up and running? What have been the biggest successes?
The biggest challenge has been moving into online marketing. As an esthetician, I work one on one with people to build trust and connection. It is a different task when that face to face connection is not there. The biggest success has been seeing people’s reactions to their gifts and having a creative outlet to create something new and meaningful.
What advice would you give to somebody looking to build a retail business?
I would tell them to do their research as far as inventory and marketing goes. There are so many fields and areas that are over-saturated, it is important to find a way to stand out.
